Heres where anything related to goalball can go, for anyone who has played the sport, or for those who want to learn. For any goalball players out there, do you have any tips/tricks to help improve throwing technique?
I would LOVE pointers on throwing... it's hard for a total to understand the mechanics if they have never seen it done...

Centre player - Defense!
When I used to play, I was always tought to stand side on to where I was throwing, and throw across my boddy. That way, there would be less margin for error.
your coach should teach you how to throw accurately. There are many ways to throw a ball. Knowing how to throw forom different areas of the court can be useful too because you won't always be in the same position and sometimes you may want to throw from where ever you received the ball.
Senior, it's not so much shooting from different locations on the court - you should always have good court orientation. I think it's more the mechanics of how to shoot that are difficult to grasp for someone who has never seen the movement of shooting...

Hi,
I played goalball for six years and was the center. I was far better at hearing exactly where the ball was coming to than throwing. I could throw accurately, but I could not throw defensively or offensively. Putting me in a wing position was definitely a last resort unless a poorly blocking wing player was being harpooned.
I won't try to give too many pointers here because I am awful at descriptions. What I will say is that as far as throwing, I was never taught to throw across my body, but to throw in different directions according to where my feet were pointing. To throw across your body, or off to the right, when the rest of you is facing left is just awkward. Throwing diagonally cross court is one thing, but throwing across your body is not a good technique. We're not throwing a shotput here, it's a goalball.
I practiced with and was coached by guys who played on the US goalball team in the special Olympics, and they always told us to throw with your toes.
Agreed with SoS... if your toes are angled the wrong way, the ball will follow your toes. I was also told to look at where you want the ball to go.
